On July 13, 2023, the California State Assembly introduced a resolution (HR52) that praises radical Islamist groups and individuals from California. The bill, which commemorates August 2023 as “American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month,“ fails to acknowledge the achievements of secular and reformist Muslims that call California home. HR52 celebrates the so-called achievements of Muslim Brotherhood front groups and Islamists linked to violent South Asian extremists. Meanwhile, Muslim achievements in science, law, medicine, and sports are ignored.
