In the early 19th century, a fierce war was fought over a decades long feud between the mighty Crow tribe of Montana and their feared and fearsome adversaries in the Sioux and Cheyenne. In 1820, near the Yellowstone River, an attack was made by the Sioux and Cheyenne on a Crow village who’s warriors had left on the warpath. After months of relentless fighting and raiding, the Sioux and Cheyenne would descend upon the vulnerable Crow village, led by Chief Long Hair, a veteran Crow warrior and chief. In this raid, the Sioux and Cheyenne would seek to win glory, trophy, and slaves, while Long Hair and his Crow would seek to save as many of their women, children and elderly as possible in the onslaught to come. Tune in to HOKC for this little-known story that takes you into the brutal, bloody world of intertribal warfare on Montana’s High Plains.
