Sky News host Rowan Dean has reflected on the life of charismatic comedian and cartoonist Bill Leak who campaigned against the “corrosive effect” of political correctness on Aussie humour after drawing the ire of human rights activists over a depiction of Mohammed. Four years ago, a memorial service was held at Town Hall in Sydney attracting a gathering of politicians, policymakers, artists and literary figures to celebrate Mr Leak’s life after he died of a heart attack. Mr Dean said prior to his death Mr Leak had suffered months of stress brought on by an “ISIS fatwa against him“ and the Australian Human Rights Commission over “disgraceful and ‘untrue’ racism claims”.
