Dambinova Svetlana: 2. Neurotoxicity Biomarkers for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury. 2.2. AMPA and NMDA receptors in diagnosis of sport-related concussions This lecture presents data supporting the hypothesis that glutamate neuroreceptor peptides are specific biomarkers of brain damage and compromised cerebral blood flow as consequence after neurotrauma from subtle to more severe. Key brain biomarkers might be utilized to improve diagnostic certainty to predict follow up neurological conditions: α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4- isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA), N-methyl-D- aspartate (NMDA), and kainate receptors. AMPA receptor peptides are associated with subcortical diffuse axonal injury, while NMDA and kainate receptors peptides predominantly reflect arterial and venous circulations in cortical and brainstem areas, respectively. Feasibility studies of these biomarkers in the blood of individuals with neurotrauma (sport- related, vehicle accidents, etc) are presented in conjunction with neuroimaging and clinical observations [neurocognitive testing or Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) scores] #Dambinova #Дамбинова #Brain #Biomarkers #Assessment #Brain #Damage #Glutamate #receptors #family #ionotropic #metabotropic
