Gerald Elias, violin; Pamela Palmer-Jones, harpsichord; Noriko Kishi, cello. This performance is part of the World Premier Recording of Castrucci's Complete Op. 1 Sonatas. Violinist and composer Pietro Castrucci (1679-1752), a protégée of Arcangelo Corelli, was the concertmaster for Handel’s opera orchestra in London from 1718 until 1737. Though his compositions demonstrate a complete mastery of his craft and have a distinctive and dramatically expressive voice, it is perhaps due to his modest output as a composer that Castrucci hasn’t attained the stature of his greatest contemporaries, because in terms of quality there are few who can claim superiority. The recording featuring Gerald Elias, violin, Pamela Palmer-Jones, harpsichord, and Noriko Kishi, cello, is the first complete recording ever of these remarkable sonatas. Recorded May 17, 2021 in Libby Gardner Hall, University of Utah Campus in Salt lake City, Utah, USA.
