I knew this day would come, but I don’t know how to face it. I should’ve made more of an effort, or at least I could’ve called. I hate the fact that for your last few years, you felt so alone. I am disappointed in myself, and you’ll never know just how I felt. There are a million things I would’ve done so different, if I would’ve known. Last year everything was fine, but now you’re gone. When I was younger, you tried to tell me you wouldn’t be around forever. I didn’t listen, and now it f***ing haunts me. Every decision forever haunts me. There are so many things I wish I could say. So many emotions I need to convey. But I will never have the opportunity. There’s so much regret that resides in me. If only time could move slower now. It doesn’t matter; it’s over now. You watched me take my first step, and I watched you take your last breath. I’m so sorry I couldn’t help. I felt so helpless. I blame myself. I tried my hardest to lift your spirit, but the hand of death had a tighter grip. So, I can only hope that you feel peace. The comfort drugs made you numb as you drifted off to sleep. Father, I’m so sorry. It was so hard to watch you suffer. You had no clue, but I was killing you. I watched you wither away more and more, day by day. You fought so hard, but couldn’t resist it. A death not so distant. ________________________________ Credits: Written and performed by Matt Childers and Gunner Kelley Recorded, Mixed, and Mastered by Kevin Langley Visualizer by Micah Rector
