Hearns was a 2 to 1 favorite. The fight took place before a crowd of 4,250 at the Caesars Palace Sports Pavilion. Hearns landed 217 of 578 punches (38 percent), and Barkley connected on 224 of 904 (25 percent). After the fight, Hearns underwent surgery for bone chips in his right hand.
