Tuned down all strings a full tone to D G C F A D. This is a very deep song and terribly dark. Some songs are fun to play but some - like Zero the Hero - are quite intense and sinister. I was happy when I was done to be honest :) There’s a lot to say about this song - the riff that later found its way into Paradise City - but here are a few things. First, the tone. I cannot get the same tone and it seems Tony had a different setup than for previous albums, I’m guessing a Boogie but it has a lot more preamp gain than he normally has. The solo is quite extraordinary both in phrasing and tone - I’m guessing it could have been played using a cocked wah as a tone enhancer- toe down, to get that chilly sharp sound. The solo is not note for note correct, too busy to work out everything! But there are a few signature licks in there that I tried to capture. Enjoy. The bass overdub is quite unique because it means there are actually 2 basses going on at the same time. The overdub seems like Geezer with his Tycobrahe Parapedal wah and possibly an Octave pedal, which is what I used here along with a chorus pedal.
