In this video I will show you, How To Identify Male And Female Molly Fish If you keep Mollies in the tank or want to breed in aquarium, then identifying their gender becomes the topmost work. It is very easy to distinguish between male and female mollies. 1. Body Shape In general, female mollies have a rounded body especially abdomen, whereas male mollies have a flat body shape. Size and Shape Generally, mollies grow in between 2 and 4 inches. Female mollies generally longer than male mollies. Fins Dorsal Fin is the back fin of mollies. Male and female mollies both have a dorsal fin, although male's dorsal fins are generally bigger than females. The larger dorsal fin of males also enhances their beauty and often helps to attract the female for mating. fin Anal Fin is the most specific part to identify the gender. Anal Fin presents underside, behind the belly of the fish. Male mollies' anal fin is modified into the tube-like shape that is called “Gonopodium” which they use to mate with females. While the female’s anal fin has a triangular shape. Differences Male mollies have more vibrant and bold colour patterns than female mollies. Female mollies have usually dull and timid colour schemes, that is why the stronger colour variants of male mollies appear to be appealing. You can easily identify the molly fish gender by noticing their behavior. Male mollies always try to catch female molly’s attention in order to mate with them. They continue to chase females and swim in front of them showing their fin to attain the attention.
