Natural disaster 26 July 2024. Typhoon Gaemi hit China on Thursday, leaving a trail of destruction across Taiwan and flooding a cargo ship. The storm struck Fujian Province on Thursday evening, sweeping along the Chinese coast. Earlier, Gaemi caused the flooding of the cargo ship Fu-Shun off the coast of Kaohsiung Harbor in Taiwan. Nine Myanmar crew members went missing in the incident, but three were later found. Although the typhoon's intensity has decreased, authorities warned residents in southern and central Taiwan of possible flooding in the coming days. About 87,000 households were left without power, and schools, workplaces, and financial markets remained closed for a second day. According to the disaster response center, the superstorm brought strong winds and heavy rains to the island before making landfall. Typhoon Gaemi is expected to be the most powerful storm in the past eight years. The President urged people to “prioritize safety“ as about 29,000 soldiers are on standby to manage disaster relief efforts. Before making landfall, Gaemi, the first typhoon of the season to hit the island, had maximum sustained winds of 190 kilometers per hour. An estimated 1,800 millimeters of rainfall is expected in southern and central Taiwan. The storm has already impacted Japan and the Philippines, intensifying seasonal monsoon rains in Manila. The rains caused a dozen landslides and floods over five days. This could be the largest typhoon in recent years. It is moving straight towards the eastern coast, and if it makes landfall there, the damage will be colossal. The Taiwanese government stated that more than 4,000 people were evacuated from sparsely populated mountainous areas at high risk of landslides due to heavy rains. Taiwan also canceled about 400 flights, and railway services were halted from noon. I welcome everyone to my channel, I want to thank those who support me and watch my videos.
