Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have officially announced the third installment in the critically acclaimed “Dune“ franchise: “Dune: Messiah.“ Based on Frank Herbert's sequel novel, this new chapter promises to delve even deeper into the complex and mesmerizing universe of “Dune,“ with Timothée Chalamet reprising his role as Paul Atreides and Anya Taylor-Joy joining the cast as his grown-up sister, Alia Atreides. “Dune: Messiah“ picks up several years after the events of “Dune: Part Two,“ following Paul Atreides' ascension to Emperor. The film will explore the consequences of his rule, the burdens of prophecy, and the intricate political machinations that threaten his empire. As Paul grapples with the moral complexities of his messianic role, he must also confront new dangers and old enemies. Anya Taylor-Joy steps into the role of Alia Atreides, Paul's enigmatic and powerful sister, whose presence adds a new dynamic to the narrative. Alia, born with the knowledge and powers of the Bene Gesserit, becomes a central figure in the unfolding drama, as she navigates her own path amidst the political intrigue of the empire. While the studio has yet to make a formal announcement, there can be little doubt that WB is not going to waste the opportunity to release a 3rd Dune movie, given the huge success that Dune 2 has turned out to be. Without giving away any real spoilers, Messiah picks up after a 12-year time jump and is focused on Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) ruling as Emperor, and his relationship with his wife, Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), and concubine, Chani (Zendaya). The violent jihad Paul envisioned and feared that he would inspire throughout the first two films has come and gone. Now, Paul is struggling to deal with a conspiracy to overthrow him while hoping to produce an heir. The book is largely focused on palace intrigue and feels more like TV-sized Dune than movie-sized Dune. Paul’s mother, the Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) isn’t in Messiah (something that’s difficult to imagine Villeneuve not changing), and the story lacks obvious villains like the Harkonnens to drive the narrative. ------------------------------------------------ Inspiration behind this video: Anya Taylor-Joy had an unexpected appearance in Dune: Part Two as Alia Atreides, but the actor's age didn't quite line up with her character's. Paul Atreides had several visions in Dune: Part Two, and some of them included images of his sister, Alia. As she was portrayed by Taylor-Joy, Alia appeared to be a grown woman in the vision, though she hadn't been born yet in the movie. While Paul's vision was certainly a glimpse into the future, it's difficult to determine how far into the future he saw, or how old Alia was supposed to be. Director Denis Villeneuve made several changes to the Dune books, and Alia's role was one of the biggest modifications. Alia had several powers in the Dune books, and she played a much bigger part in its events than she did in the movie. While she wasn't utilized much in Dune: Part Two, Alia will almost certainly be a major character in Dune: Part Three, and Taylor-Joy will likely reprise her role. Translating Alia's complex character to the screen will pose a challenge, but explaining her ambiguous age will be even more difficult. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Song: Nick Froud - Hidden Gods (No Copyright Music) Music provided by Tunetank.
