Another example of the many non-Germans who fought with Germany against Bolshevism. “We never saw them [Germans] as the enemy, quite the opposite. They were very good to us, viewing the Flemish as brothers. When German soldiers came into the town (in 1940), the leaders drank beer with them before they set off for France. Under the occupation our life improved, there was much work and the people were content.“ “...the whole reason we fought was to safeguard Christian Europe and its people.
