Singers Tom Jones and Barry White performed under the stars last night (May 29) in Modena, Italy, to help Luciano Pavarotti raise money for Afghanistan refugees. The legendary Italian opera star also performed, dedicating the eighth “Pavarotti and Friends“ concert to the refugees. Other performers included George Benson, Anastacia, Deep Purple, and Morcheeba, while celebrities taking part included actor Michael Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and designer Donatella Versace. The show was broadcast nationally. Ruud Lubbers, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, announced the agency would bestow a humanitarian award on Pavarotti next month for giving “great visibility to the cause of refugees.“
