Interviewing Edgar Allan Poe (Silvano Tranquili) in a shadowy London pub, journalist Alan Foster (Georges Rivière) questions the veracity of Poe's macabre tales. Poe bets Foster he can't spend the night of All Soul's Eve in the haunted castle of Poe's friend Lord Blackwood (Umberto Raho). Every night in Blackwood Castle, the dead rise and re-live their grisly demise. With the help of a beautiful, sympathetic specter (Barbara Steele), Foster hopes to escape the shadowy castle alive. Just a note: Edgar Allan Poe was always mourning the many women who died young, beginning with his mother when he was a small child. He also went to England to meet with fellow horror story author, Algernon Blackwood, in the hopes of getting a publishing deal in the UK. Considering Poe's pioneering creation of the short story and detective fiction, it's sad and ironic that he didn't succeed with Mr. Blackwood in getting what he wanted.
