Footage has been shared on social media, appearing to show a group of Palestinians desperately trying to retrieve aid crates that fell into the sea. The video shows dozens of people attempting to swim to the crates, with many clearly in distress from the waves. Some reportedly had to cling onto the aid boxes to keep from drowning. ‘Shame on them,’ says one man regarding the decision to drop boxes over the water. The nearby land is empty with adequate space, he points out, wondering why the crates weren’t dropped there. A young boy was asked why he risked drowning in the water to get an aid box. He replied simply, ‘I need to feed my family.’ The footage follows an incident in March, in which 12 people drowned attempting to reach crates in the sea. The faulty drop was blamed on ‘parachute malfunctions.’
