The guys rented a professional studio in Moscow in December 1988 and finished the album in a week. It turned out to be gloomy, and almost all of its songs were full of melancholy and philosophical reflections. “I can't say I was a Tsoi fan, but the depth of his lyrics had always blown my mind,“ audio engineer Kuvshinov later remembered. After a few weeks, they were back to make a compilation album Le Dernier Des Héros by request of their French acquaintances, and then delayed the release of the new album for half a year due to the popularity of the previous one. In the summer, the band distributed it themselves to prevent the only official Soviet recording company from cashing in on the new material. Songs such as “Звезда по имени Солнце“ (A Star Called the Sun) and “Пачка сигарет“ (Pack of Cigarettes) became huge hits. The guys soon began receiving invitations to perform from all over the Eastern Bloc, and their popularity in the USSR was enormous.
