SETAREH presents Art of Another Kind as a part of the federal programm NEUSTART KULTUR. The exhibition will showcase representative works of the Informel movement by Afro, Erwin Bechtold, Bram Bogart, Peter Brüning, Carl Buchheister, Karl Fred Dahmen, Hisao Dōmoto, Winfred Gaul, K.O. Götz, Hans Hartung, Gerhard Hoehme, Norbert Kricke, Christian Megert, Georges Noël, Jean Piaubert, Giuseppe Santomaso, Emil Schumacher, Jaroslav Serpan, . Sonderborg, Fred Thieler, Mohsen Vaziri-Moghaddam, Fritz Winter, Wols et al. . Originating from a young generation of artists, a new avantgarde of non-objective painting was formed in Europe and the USA at the end of the 1940s, for which the terms Informel, Art Autre, Lyrical Abstraction, Tachism and, as its US-American counterpart, Abstract Expressionism were soon available. These internationally observable painterly tendencies, which were shaped by different influences and whose impact is still recognisable today, reached an artistic maturity from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s. What these artists, who worked in a fundamentally abstract, non-geometric manner, had in common was the need to free themselves from forms that had been known in art up to that point and that were considered valid and immutable. It was a matter of breaking away from traditional principles of composition, outdated internal pictorial hierarchies, and of turning away from the classical pictorial structure. Video: Maxim Diehl
