Night And Day (from Cole Porter) - NO PROPAGANDA CHARLIE and his Orchestra directed by LUTZ TEMPLIN, vocals: KARL “CHARLIE“ SCHWEDLER Mx: 6943 GD9, POLYDOR Klarinette/Mandoline 0176 recording date: Berlin, 6 October 1942 non filtered digitizing: .0035 x .0012mµ, Shure DM-103 In winter 1939, the German propaganda ministery founded a political cabaret broadcast show to entertain English speaking people in a more or less subtile way: besides “fake news“ and interviews with POWs from GB, the band of LUTZ TEMPLIN appeared to play Swing standards and Movie songs in worked over versions. Normally, after a first refrain sung by KARL “CHARLIE“ SCHWEDLER, a short announcement indicated the following propaganda messages sung over the well known melodies. Only some recordings were made without propaganda, like this “Night And Day“ in October 1942. The band members were best Jazz musicians from all over Europe, only very few recordings of “CHARLIE“ show the ability of the orchestra and the soloists. Most of the regular LUTZ TEMPLIN records on DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON/POLYDOR and SIEMENS-POLYDOR seem more modernistic and more swingy than most of the broadcastings with CHARLIE SCHWEDLER. The whole information about this band can be found in Reiner E. Lotz' book “Hitler's Airwaves“ (Bergmeier/Lotz), 1997
