17 years ago today Sinclair, Vassell and Fowler etched their names into derby day history with a 3-1 win over Manchester United! Quickfire goals from Trevor Sinclair and Darius Vassell before the break put City in the driving seat before Robbie Fowler’s stoppage time strike wrapped up a deserved 3-1 triumph. Sinclair gave Stuart Pearce’s men the lead just after the 30-minute mark with a volley on the turn and Vassell doubled our advantage just seven minutes later after combining with Andrew Cole from a City goal kick. Things went from bad to worse for United when Cristiano Ronaldo was given a straight red for a reckless lunge on Cole midway through the second half, but Ruud Van Nistelrooy halved the deficit ten minutes later. However, our two-goal advantage was restored in stoppage time when Fowler rifled a first-time effort into the far corner of Edwin van der Sar’s net after being teed up by Vassell. Want more?
