You can follow me through the whole process, from cutting each piece from 1,5 mm sheet steel and 1,5mm brass for the edging, grinding them to shape with a belt grinder, filing, dishing and final assembly. I also needed a matrix to emboss the typical three lines on the decorative brass pieces, so I’ve cast them in aluminium bronze, which is a really tough but brittle metal. This is the fourth part of my first series about the recreation of a Vendel kings helmet found in grave 6, Valsgärde, Sweden, 2nd half of VIIth century.
