Andrea shares her story of spending 12 days stuck in the Jefferson County Jail pretrial because of unaffordable cash bail and the effect it had on her 6 children. In over half of cases in Kentucky, people cannot afford to pay their bail. Black Kentuckians are jailed at a much higher rate than white Kentuckians. The number of children in Kentucky with a parent in jail is four times the national average. Over two-thirds of the women incarcerated in Kentucky have children.
