Muslim pilgrims threw pebbles at the huge columns that represent Satan in the ’Stoning of the Devil’ ritual, as part of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. From dawn on the day of Eid al-Adha, pilgrims took part in the tradition at the holy site of Mina by throwing seven consecutive pebbles at the stone monument of Jamrat Al-Aqabah. The ritual marks the Prophet Ibrahim’s challenge to Satan by throwing stones at him, according to the Islamic tradition.
