Scene from “The 13th Warrior“. No copyright infringement intended. I like this scene and wanted to share it. Sorry about the letterbox black bars. Learning a new video editor. I'm not sure how to interpret Buliwyf's dialog with Fadlan. He's either: 1) Mocking the notion that “there is one God and Muhammad is His prophet“ by demonstrating, as he would see it, that cannot be true because Odin clearly guided the party to dry land and therefore Odin must exist. Buliwyf may have been offended by Fadlan's earlier assertion that there is indeed “one God“; his intent may be to put Fadlan “in his place“ by reminding him that he is both subordinate to Buliwyf and a stranger in Buliwyf's land --in a sense, “a guest in his home“; 2) Or he's demonstrating that he has respect for Fadlan's faith by showing him he remembered not only the statement Fadlan had made earlier, but also how to write the individual words/characters of that statement. He may be suggesting that in Fadlan's homeland there may very well be “one God“, but here they have all witnessed “indisputable“ proof that Odin exists; because Fadlan is a stranger to Buliwyf's world, Fadlan must acknowledge the existence of Odin to correctly understand the Norse ways. This would be considered another instance of Fadlan's indoctrination to the band of warriors, and at the same time a courteous gesture on the part of Buliwyf. I think the second possibility makes more sense because Buliwyf is a wise and honorable man. Maybe I'm reading into it too much.
