January 2021　As Shirakawago is located in a mountainous area, it gets a lot of snow fall. Gassho-zukuri houses feature a unique architectural style designed to keep the forces of nature, particularly in winter, at bay. The Shirakawa-go has over 4m of snowfall in the winter months.
