On 18th June 1992 - Paul McCartney’s 50th birthday - The Beatnix performed I Saw Her Standing There live-to-air on The Ray Martin Midday Show. The musicians performing as The Beatnix on this track were Bruce Coble (myself, as “John“), the late great Steven Shipley (as “Paul“), David Wood (as “George“) & John Taylor (as “Ringo“). We were pretty road-tested at this point - this line-up had been together for about 2 years. This would however be the last appearance with the group of David Wood for a few years, who left the group in mid-92 to do other things shortly after this video was recorded. This is a great example of the effortless bass & vocals of Steven Shipley, & the brilliant early-“George“ guitar of David Wood. I think I had finally become more comfortable in the role of John, though this was obviously around the time that I discovered the joys of imitating The Beatles’ penchant for singing with chewing gum on national TV. I also recall enjoying replicating the southern twang that the Beatles put in some of their early vocals, this one included.
