ENG: The “Himno al Libertador General San Martín” (Hymn to the Liberator General San Martin) is an Argentine patriotic song composed by Segundo M. Argañarás and an Italian immigrant Arturo Luzzatti. The song pays tribute to General San Martín, who fought for the Kingdom of Spain against the French Empire in the Napoleonic Wars, and later for the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata in the Latin American wars of independence. There, he liberated Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador from Spanish royalist forces. He fought in the Battle of San Lorenzo, the Battle of Maipú, and the Battle of Chacabucho. Another important historical event was when he crossed the Andes to liberate Chile, forming the Army of the Andes, whose flag is still used as the flag of the province of Mendoza.
