Merle Ronald Haggard (April 6, 1937 – April 6, 2016) was an American country singer, songwriter, guitarist, and fiddler. “Always Late (with Your Kisses)“ is a song co-written and recorded by country music artist Lefty Frizzell. It was the fifth single released from his 1951/1952 album Listen to Lefty. It peaked at number one in 1951 and became his fourth release to hit the top. In this fantastic live performance at the International Country Festival 1978 , Haggard sings “Always Late (with Your Kisses)“ which was a number one hit for Lefty Frizzell on the US Hot Country Singles chart in 1951. Merle Haggard first covered the song on his album, Roots, Volume 1 which was released in 2001 and reached number fourty seven on the Billboard Country Albums chart.
