This is the first instalment in our podcast series in collaboration with Intersex Aotearoa. For this episode, Jane had the privilege of chatting with Jelly O’Shea. Jelly is a queer Pākehā intersex individual, was born in Ōtepoti/Dunedin and hails from Irish, Scottish, Dutch, and English roots. Currently residing in Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington, with their rescue staffy Nessi and partner Flo. As a dedicated advocate and activist, Jelly passionately champions collaborative, community-led initiatives aimed at transforming marginalised communities affected most by the confines of patriarchal capitalism. Their focus lies in ensuring equitable health and wellbeing outcomes for intersex individuals and their whānau (families) across Aotearoa. With a firm belief in the power of advocacy, Jelly tirelessly works towards effecting positive change and striving to contribute to an inclusive society that embraces and uplifts those historically overlooked or marginalised.
