At this point, we have already told you a lot about the Russian IT market. In order not to repeat ourselves, we’ll tell you about the features and pitfalls that can await you, and which you should definitely pay attention to. We have tried to summarize our experience and now we’d love to share it with you (our top managers’ experience reaches 450 years in total) But this is our entirely personal point of view… Basic provisions: 1) If the project “ignites“ people, they work with full dedication, without looking back at their personal time. 2) It is necessary to check whether there are specialists on the Russian market that are compatible with technology stack that is planned to be used in the project or to be ready for their training / retraining. 3) It is necessary to draw up project charters more carefully than usual, to control communications, make clear and definite deadlines. If possible, integrate your own managers to projects. The project team is advised at the beginning and so on about the importance of precision of coordination and communication between team members. At the same time, Russian teams are strong enough to solve certain problems on their own. 4) There are companies with mature processes on the Russian market, you can distinguish them by the information they provide. 5) When evaluating a company or a specialist, it is better to pay attention to the achievements and feedback from their clients / employers. Lack of certificates is normal in Russia. However too many certificates should be alarming. 6) All these undesirable effects are quite surmountable if you will be careful with choosing the performers and immediately establish work terms you need. Or contact a company that will make the choice of the performer and set these terms for you. Conclusion #1 Freelancers or a small firm are great for an MVP, but you shouldn’t count on them as your primary force in global / serious projects. Conclusion #2 Own branch is a costly but popular option for entering the Russian market, which allows you to get the most out of the use of the Russian labor force, compensating for typical undesirable effects with your management. Suitable for large projects and products Conclusion #3 For small projects, so-called “boutiques“ will be the best contractor choice. It is easier to negotiate with them than with corporates, they possess a transparent process, high efficiency and precise deadlines.
