Secret Sounds is a popgroup from Utrecht active in the mid 1980’s. They released their first album ’Wasteland’, produced by Hoogenboezem in Studio Spitsbergen. The band’s line-up is in 1984: Gert van Veen on keyboards, Jean Monsou, drums, Klaas van Dijk, piano, Igor van Zaalen provides background vocals. The single ’State Of Sound reached no 14 in the Dutch Tipparade, the bubbling under of the Top 40. Jean Monsou“ later joined the Time Bandits and Moonflower en “Gert van Veen“ became known as a popjournalist for de Volkskrant. Nederlands: (uit ’Popencyclopedie) Het eerste complete album Wasteland wordt samen met producer Michiel Hoogenboezem opgenomen in Studio Spitsbergen. Gert van Veen doet mee op toetsen en Klaas van Dijk is te horen op piano. Igor van Zaalen verzorgt achtergrondvocalen. Anton Visser speelt piano op de akoestische versie van Wake The World. Net als de single State Of Sound komt het album uit in eigen beheer. De single Wasteland verschijnt met de dubbele A-kant Johnny & The Rites Of Sin. Radiostations weten geen raad met de plaat en draaien afwisselend beide kanten. De single krijgt hierdoor geen optimale aandacht en flopt.
