A quiz where we are asked to guess a sound played over a blank screen. Titles read: “Can you believe your ears? No. 5. Microphones have queer ideas on certain sounds, which don't always 'register' as you'd imagine, especially when largely amplified. For instance, guess this simple sound... “ Over a blank screen we hear as sort of scraping sound; visuals cut in to show M/S of a woman sharpening a knife. The next sound is like something being hit with a hammer, a then a few thuds, then something being poured from a teapot. Visuals show a woman hitting a soft-boiled egg with a spoon, putting some sugar lumps in a teacup and pouring tea from a teapot. Next we hear a sort of rough, shaking sound; visuals cut in to show a woman grating something over a bowl. A scratching sound turns out to be a woman writing with a fountain pen. A rough, scraping noise is revealed as a woman opening letters with a letter-opener, and a scrubbing noise belongs to visuals showing a woman cleaning her shoes. FILM ID:
