This wound of fourth against a third could originate in this manner. Both fencers are in third guard outside, and our fencer performs a feint of third to the outside. The opponent reacts by going to the parry and the counter, pushing his right foot forward, thinking himself at an advantage by seeing our fencer moving out of tempo. But our fencer, at perceiving the parry and counter, places his hand on the inside of the opponent’s sword and, with a cavazione of fourth, passes with the left foot and wounds the opponent in the left flank. It could also be that our fencer starts to the inside, performs a cavazione with a fourth, feinting an attack to the outside, and the opponent attempts a parry. Our fencer places his hand against the opponent’s sword and wounds as illustrated.
