In this video, we're looking at the InterCity route between 2 popular Swiss cities with the tourists - Zürich, Switzerland's largest city and Lucerne, a city on a lake preceding the alps. The original line between Zürich and Luzern was actually routed via Affoltern am Albis to Zug, one we have looked at before. At that time, Zug was a terminus station like Zürich and Lucerne still are, which required a change of direction to reach Lucerne. Note the right hand curve after we leave Zug. The straight section after that curve formerly continued behind us to what was the terminus station. To assist in turning trains, the loop track labelled after leaving Zug was at that time not a loop, rather a track where trains could reverse left into from the terminus, then pull forwards towards Lucerne and reverse back into the station. When the line was built between Zug and Arth-Goldau in 1897, the loop was made and the station shifted to where it is now. The loop served to connect the l
