Cipriano de Rore (1516-1565) Vergine pura (Il terzo libro de madrigali a cinque voci, 1548) The third stanza of Petrarca's Vergine poem, which concludes his Canzoniere. (Petrarca: Canzoniere, 366) === ENGLISH === Virgin so pure and perfect in every way, daughter and mother to your noble Son, who brighten this life and adorn the other, through you, your Son and the Son of the highest Father, (O lofty window of the shining heavens), came to save us in our last days: and from all the other earthly dwellings you alone were chosen. Blessed Virgin, who turns Eve’s crying to happiness: make me as worthy of His grace as you can, You, blessed without end, already crowned in the highest kingdom.
