On Monday, June 28th, 2021, Deputy Stringer attempted a traffic stop on a bicyclist who did not have visible rear lights while driving at night. The bicyclist, Nicholas Meekins, was entering the parking lot of the Dollar General located at 6725 SE Maricamp Road and fled when he saw the patrol car. Deputy Stringer did not initiate a pursuit, but he followed Meekins in his patrol vehicle from the roadway. Meekins pedaled down several streets, through peoples’ yards, and in-between homes before Deputy Stringer was able to catch up to him and give chase on foot. Meekins still refused to stop when told to do so, therefore Deputy Stringer deployed his taser to end the chase and apprehend him. He was placed into handcuffs and continually advised he ran because he believed there was a warrant for his arrest. Meekins did in fact have a felony warrant for the possession and sale of fentanyl. He was placed under arrested on the warrant, charged with resisting, and booked into the Marion County Jail without bond.
