Just over the past week, this escalation has expanded dramatically, particularly in the maritime domain: the US military took down an Iranian drone that came within “threatening range“ of a US ship, Iran seized and is holding a British oil tanker and its crew, the UK is making plans for an expanded European-led maritime protection mission in the Gulf, and the US also plans to ramp up its maritime security coalition efforts in “Operation Sentinel.” In this context, the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security and the Arabia Foundation invite you to timely discussion unpacking the recent pattern of escalation with Iran in the Gulf, the US and regional policy response, and what comes next.
