Today, I wanted to explore through some weird and wonderful creative works made by one of my all time heroes in music, Kurt Cobain, the iconic frontman of the famous American rock band Nirvana, and practically the face of the rock music genre known as grunge, even though he may not have cared so much for that, but we’ll get into that later. Apart from being an incredibly talented and unique songwriter who redefined possibilities in rock music, Kurt would also explore his creative side in many other aspects outside his music career, such as sketches, paintings and sculptures, some of which would make it onto Nirvana albums, right up till he tragically took his own life, aged just 27, in 1994. The vast array of surreal imagery Kurt would create is surprising and absolutely fascinating, with so many thought provoking elements that link to his music or even to the darkest sides of his mind and his past. There have been numerous, well produced and informative documentaries released on Kurt and Nirvana over the years, but only a select few on his many other creative talents, which are arguably equally as intriguing as his music. And so in this video, we will be exploring not only how Kurt learned and improved in music, but also how excelled as an artist as a whole (whether he knew it or not) by also looking at how he experimented in his painting, clay modelling, photography and many other forms of medium and media. Slight correction for 48:30, I of course meant to say “dollars“ instead of “pounds“. What can I say.
