“Why Can't He Be You“' is a song written by Hank Cochran that was originally recorded by Patsy Cline. The song was later included on Cline's Greatest Hits album. It has since been notably covered by Loretta Lynn and Norah Jones. Patsy Cline first recorded the song on February 12, 1962 at the Bradley Film and Recording Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. The session was produced by Owen Bradley and among the other tracks recorded by Cline that day was the single “Leavin' on Your Mind“ and the song “Your Kinda Love“. The Jordanaires did background vocals, Randy Hughes guitar, Ray Edenton rhythm guitar, Grady Martin electric guitar, and music director, Walter Haynes pedal steel guitar, Floyd Cramer piano, Bill Pursell organ, Bob Moore bass, Harold Bradley electric sis string bass, and Buddy Harman drums. “Why Can't He Be You“ was released as the B-side to Cline's 1962 single, “Heartaches“ which reached number 73 on
