From the December 8, 2011 concert at the Inbal Theater in Tel Aviv. This is the doina section from Zapfenstreich, originally recorded by Art Shryer's Yiddish Orchestra in 1928 in New York. Also released by the San Francisco Klezmer Experience on their Zing! CD. Known in Yiddish as “di tsvey shtrunes“ and in Turkish as “çiftitelli“ there are only a few old recordings of this style in Yiddish music. This is a good example of the influence of the music of the Ottoman Empire on Eastern European Jewish music. The violin is a normal violin, but the middle strings are switched, and moved closer to the outer strings, and in this recording, tuned in octaves of G and D. The word Çiftetelli (Turkish for double-string) eventually became better known as a type of slow rhythm used in Middle-Eastern music. booking and more info at Daniel Hoffman with Gilad Ephrat - contrabass, Boris Martzinovsky - accordion, and Yair Salzman - drums
