“Amir Derakh hosts a live acoustic performance show every month, where they occasionally have guests perform covers in the Julien-K studio in Long Beach, CA. I chose “Where Is My mind” due to the lead guitar part being one of my favorite pieces of music ever written, and also that it was a song that did not require a beautiful flawless vocal performance. I am generally not an acoustic performer, and barricade myself with machines and layers of instruments and technology, so this was a real challenge for me to let the walls down and forced me way out of my comfort zone. I still wanted it to sound like something I would do as The Anix, so I ran a drum loop which I programmed on Mashine, and controlled the pattern between vocal and guitar parts through my iPad. I also played the newly reissued Fender Jag-Stang through an overdriven Fender amp, rather than play my parts on acoustic.
