Christmas Day in South Korea South Korea is the only East Asian nation to recognise Christmas (Sung Tan Jul) as a national holiday. Unlike Seollal or Chuseok, Christmas is not a big traditional holiday, so most Koreans don't travel back to their hometown to celebrate. As Christmas is a national holiday Koreans enjoy a day off to relax with loved ones. The holiday is frequently billed as “Valentine’s Day with Santa“ with residents enjoying their time with their partner, rather than the wider family.
