This new recording presents the first recording of the violin sonata by Karen Khachaturian, nephew of the famous composer Aram Khachaturian, and one of the most notable composers of 20th century Armenia. It is a work of strong rhythmic drive, colorful textures and clearly inspired by the rich folklore of the composer’s homeland. Aram Khachaturian is represented by a selection of arrangements of his most famous works: Sabre Dance, Lullaby and Ayesha’s Dance from Gayane ballet, the Adagio from Spartacus (theme from Onedin Line!) and the Adagio from the Violin Concerto. Played with vigour and innate sense for the idiom by Ruben Kosemyan, one of Armenia’s foremost violinists, and pianist Natalya Mnatsakanyan. Composers: Aram Ilyich Khachaturian, Karen Khachaturian Artists: Ruben Kosemyan (violin), Natalya Mnatsakanyan (piano) A unique coupling on record of vibrant and impassioned chamber music by the uncle-and-nephew Armenian composers. This delightful disc reminds us of the vita
