Between 2000 and 2002, Swedish Rallycross legend Per Eklund took the challenge of conquering Pikes Peak at the wheel of SAAB based machines. In 2002 he used the most extreme version ever built of the 9-3 model, with spaceframed chassis weighing only 950Kg and with the SAAB 2.0 Turbocharged engine producing almost 800Hp depending on boost levels. In the end, it won the Unlimited class with a 11: chrono marking an important step in the veteran´s career.
