Medieval swords beyond diamond blades

Today we take a look at a couple of original swords from the Oakeshott Institute, as well as the Arms and Armor Bohemian Broadsword. This is a preview of a lecture by Dr. Nathan Clough that will be presented at the Valley of the Sun Cutting Tournament in Phoenix, AZ. next weekend, Jan. 13-14 2024. The argument is that swords with a flattened diamond cross section in the blade are over-represented today relative to the wife variety of blades from the 12th-16th centuries. In this video we look at swords with, repetitively, a flattened hexagonal cross section, a lenticular fullered cross section, and an essentially flat section. Check out the Bohemian Broadsword here: As always, our swords are entirely made by us at our shop in Minneapolis, MN out of 6150 carbon steel, hardened and tempered to 50-52 Rockwell.
