Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has got wood, and he wants to share it with Europe. The outspoken Lukashenko was competing in a favorite event of his: a wood chopping challenge, but he took time out from whacking bits of wood with other bits of wood to express his sorrow at the state of Europe’s wood supply. ‘Times are tough. We need to help our people outside our country. People can’t buy firewood there. Here we are chopping wood for fun.’ He pointed out the Baltic States of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania as being worthy of his wood, and even lamented that (apparently) Lithuania has been forced to burn benches to stay warm.
