In this 6 March interview with Harvard University’s Takemi Program in International Health Executive Director Jesse Bump, Fatima Maada Bio detailed how she is working to close the gender gap in Africa. Women account for slightly more than half of the continent’s population. The first lady also delved into Sierra Leone’s bloody history and described how foreign interests still exploit its mineral wealth, making the case that, as a whole, Africa is not yet fully liberated. Bio also said the United Nations Security Council must be reformed after almost 80 years to include Africa as a member.
