The unbearable lightness of being and hopelessness are constant companions in my life, and it’s something I struggle to deal with. The more I tried to ignore things around me, the more anxious I became. And it makes no seen to build an informational vacuum around yourself if the cruelness of reality keeps pulling you and your friends down. In particular, that part of everyday reality in Russia which we call ‘police misconduct’. The shocking number of illegal searches and arrests, as well as violence, torture, and even rape which are commonplace in the modern Russian law enforcement system. Dealing with the police is always a lottery, and so no one wants to get involved. Even if it’s contact with your own father, and I say this as the son of a cop.
