In it, Trump and Cohen discussed buying the rights to McDougal’s story. “I need to open up a company for the transfer of all of that info regarding our friend David,” Cohen said, referring to David Pecker, then-CEO of American Media, the tabloid publisher that bought McDougal’s story for $150,000 with the intention of burying it.
