The album faces the displacement and acceptance of moving to a new phase in life. Particular themes involve facing trauma of a loved one, making peace with death, and connection to a city environment - the psychogeographic effects on one's inner life. The recordings began around 2012: a series of chance collaborations with friend and drummer Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint, finding time to play together in London, Sydney and Los Angeles, in downtime during a tour. Initial sessions were recorded with Jon Hopkins’ collaborator Cherif Hashizume, the songs then being mixed by producer Ben Hillier, renowned for his work with Depeche Mode and Nadine Shah.
