Video has emerged of a dingo biting a tourist sunbathing on a beach in Australia in the latest of a string of attacks that have raised concerns about the behaviour of the animals. In a video clip taken by another visitor, the dingo is seen loping along a beach on Fraser Island off the coast of Queensland when it approaches the young French woman, who was in a bikini and lying on a towel, and bites her on the backside. She screams in alarm and other holidaymakers come to her aid, shooing the animal away. In the following days, the same dingo attacked several other holidaymakers, including a 42-year-old woman and a seven-year-old boy. The wild dog was captured and “humanely euthanised”, according to the Queensland department of environment and science. It had been a cause for concern for some time and had been involved in a number of “high-risk” incidents. The attack is believed to have happened last month but the video only just emerged. World Heritage-recognised Fraser Island, recently renamed K’gari after its original Aboriginal name, is the largest sand island in the world and a popular tourist destination, particularly with foreign backpackers. It has a population of around 200 wild dingoes – also known by their Aboriginal name as wongari - but there have been several recent attacks by the dogs on visitors. #australia #dingo #attack Subscribe to The Telegraph with our special offer: just £1 for 3 months.
